"PUASINDA"
For the first timer, the word Puasinda might sound jolly but don't be tricked. Puasinda for me means struggle, a small remote community that struggle to provide food in each plate every day, an underserved health care and neglected education. These are all the consequences of lingering poverty that need immediate attention.
MedicAL mission
Although we conduct medical missions in the grandest possible way there are suburban community like Puasinda who is not able to participate due to economic reasons. Taking them away from the fields where they work will result into a day without food in the table. Instead, WLJI reach out to these communities by conducting medical missions right in their areas. Free check- up and medications, dental works, minor surgeries and eye glasses are provided to them. However, due to large area coverage, WLJI is limited in their desire to help everyone in need. Local government health unit, religious groups and private medical sectors have been approached for the needed help to help reach every resident in the community. Your support will always be appreciated.
Feeding program
Malnutrition and school attendance were the most common problems we encountered before our feeding program started. Most of the children work in the field together with their parents for economic reason thus neglecting school participation. There were programs introduced by NGOs however these were not sustainable because the feeding programs was very seasonal and in short term. In school year of 2015, WLJI and our volunteers adopted the Puasinda Integrated School as a pilot project providing daily hot meals. The first positive effect of the program was the spike of school attendance closer to near perfect. Malnutrition was partly resolved because of the fact that we only able to provide hot meal once a day. Currently, WLJI already adopted three schools in the suburban areas, providing hot meal to approximately 1,000 school children every school day. For the year 2017, we are planning to start up a deworming program followed by a daily dose of multivitamins to totally eradicate the problem of malnutrition. There are more schools who need assistance with feeding so let us work together to resolve this problem.
educational support
How does it feel if your kids go to school everyday barefooted carrying a plastic bag with one or two sheets of paper and a broken pencil? This problem was readily identified after our few visit during the school feeding program. An immediate action was carried out providing backpack, school supplies, care packs, shoes, raincoats and umbrellas. School uniform was in the planning but never implemented due to several reasons. We need your help. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have the man power we need.
